Who Is Jesus?

Who Do You Say I Am?

Jesus asked His disciples 'Who do people say the Son of Man is?' They replied, 'Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.' 'But what about you?' he asked. 'Who do you say I am?' Simon Peter answered, 'You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.'" (Matthew 16:13-19).

Straight Answers Straight From The Bible

        Some say Jesus is the created creator, the mighty a god, Michael the archangel. However Jehovah says;

"The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven... And again, when God brings his firstborn into the world, he says, 'Let ALL God's angels worship him' (authors note archangels are they will have to worship Jesus also)... But about the Son he says, 'Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever, and righteousness will be the scepter of your kingdom' (Psalms 45:6,7)... He also says, 'In the beginning, O Lord, you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands.' (Psalms 102:25-27)"

(Romans 9:5; Titus 2:13; Hebrews 1:3,6,8,10; Psalms 45:6,7; 102:25-27; 2 Sam 7:14; Revelation 1:7-8; Zechariah 12:7,10).

Colossians 1:16-17 "For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together."

Isaiah 42:5; 44:25 "This is what God the LORD says-- he who created the heavens and stretched them out, who spread out the earth and all that comes out of it, who gives breath to its people, and life to those who walk on it...This is what the LORD says-- your Redeemer, who formed you in the womb: 'I am the LORD, who has made all things, who alone stretched out the heavens, who spread out the earth by myself.'"

Jesus said 'I and The Father are One'...God...Know and believe that the father is in Me and I in Him.' (John 10:30,33,38).

Jesus said "He who has seen me has seen The Father...God The One and Only." (John 14:9; 1:1,18).

The Pharisee's did not want to kill Jesus because He did miracles however they did want to crucify Him because He claimed to be God. John 10:30-33,38 "'I and the Father are one.' Again the Jews picked up stones to stone him, but Jesus said to them, 'I have shown you many great miracles from the Father. For which of these do you stone me?' 'We are not stoning you for any of these,' replied the Jews, 'but for blasphemy, because you, a mere man, claim to be God'... 'But if I do it, even though you do not believe me, believe the miracles, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me, and I in the Father.'"

John 1:1,18 'In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God... No one has ever seen God, but God the One and Only, who is at the Father's side, has made him known.'

(Proverbs 16:4/Colossians 1:16; Isaiah 8:13-15/ 1 Peter 2:8; Isaiah 40:28/John 1:3/1 Corinthians 8:6; Isaiah 40:3/Matthew 3:1-3; Daniel 2:47/Deuteronomy 10:17/Revelation 17:14; Isaiah 7:14; 9:6; Jeremiah 23:5-6; John 1:1,12,18; 10:30-33,38; 14:6-9; 20:28-29; Acts 20:28; Romans 9:5; 1 Corinthians 1:24; Colossians 1:15-17; 2:6-11; 2 Thessalonians 1:12; Titus 2:13; Hebrews 1:1-3,6,8,10; 2 Peter 1:1; 1 John 5:20; Revelation 1:7-8/Zechariah 12:7,10)

The Great I AM

John 14:6-9 "Jesus answered, 'I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really knew me, you would know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.' Philip said, 'Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.' Jesus answered: 'Don't you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen Me has seen the Father. How can you say, `Show us the Father'?"

Romans 9:5 "From them is traced the human ancestry of Christ, who is God over all, forever praised! Amen."

Titus 2:13 "While we wait for the blessed hope--the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ."

1 John 3:24-4:6 "Those who obey his commands live in him, and he in them. And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us. Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world. You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. They are from the world and therefore speak from the viewpoint of the world, and the world listens to them. We are from God, and whoever knows God listens to us; but whoever is not from God does not listen to us. This is how we recognize the Spirit of truth and the spirit of falsehood."

2 John 1:9 "Anyone who runs ahead and does not continue in the teaching of Christ does not have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son."

Jesus Received Worship

Jesus was worshipped by those who knew Him best. "Thomas said to him, 'My Lord and my God!' Then Jesus told him, 'Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed,'"(John 20:28,29).

Hebrews 1:6 Speaking of Jesus Yahweh is says "And again, when God brings his firstborn into the world, he says, 'Let all God's angels worship him.'" (Duet 32:43; Psa 97:7; 89:27).

Revelations 5:9-13 "And they sang a new song: 'You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased men for God from every tribe and language and people and nation. You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God, and they will reign on the earth.' Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders. In a loud voice they sang: "Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!' Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, singing: 'To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!'

The First Born of the Dead

Jesus was begotten, the first born of the dead of the new Adam. Begotten can mean first born in reference to Abraham, Israel and Jesus. It also can translate the pre-imminent one, Chosen, first, elect, etc... In Psalms 2:7 Yahweh declares "Today I have begotten thee." This is a prophetic passage of God begetting Jesus through the virgin Mary in the future because it is impossible for Jesus to be first begotten at the time of King David. The passage of Psalms chapter six is a messianic prophetic passage applying to the future. Jesus was with God in the beginning so, this makes Jesus becoming begotten either figurative of literal in the future. Since this is a prophetic passage about the messiah to come it is a prophecy referring to Jesus virgin birth. This scripture is saying that through a virgin by the power of the Holy Spirit today I have begotten thee or more appropriately chosen thee. Refer to Isaiah 43:10 "My Servant whom I have chosen… believe and understand that I AM HE…"

Laying aside His Divinity

Jesus choose to give up His rightful position in heaven with coexistent, coequal, co-creator, and co-eternal with God to come to earth, to sympathize with fallen mankind and to die for the sins of the world.

Psalms 2:7 "I will proclaim the decree of the LORD: He said to me, "You are my Son, today I have become your Father."

Acts 13:33-37, "God has fulfilled this for us their children, in that He has raised up Jesus. As it is also written in the second Psalm: 'You are My Son, Today I have begotten You.' And that He raised Him from the dead, no more to return to corruption, He has spoken thus: 'I will give you the sure mercies of David.' Therefore He also says in another Psalm: 'You will not allow Your Holy One to see corruption.' For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell asleep, was buried with his fathers, and saw corruption; but He whom God raised up saw no corruption."

John 1:1-3 "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made."

Colossians 1:16,17 "For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together."

Genesis 1:1-3 "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, 'Let there be light,' and there was light."

Isaiah 9:6 "For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."

John 17:5 "And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began."

Hebrews 2:9 "But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, now crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone."

Philippians 2:6-11 "Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death-- even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."

Colossians 2:9 "For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form."

1 Timothy 3:16 "Beyond all question, the mystery of godliness is great: He (God) appeared in a body, was vindicated by the Spirit, was seen by angels, was preached among the nations, was believed on in the world, was taken up in glory."

Zechariah 12:7,10 "'The LORD (Yahweh)... 'And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication. They will look on Me, the one they have pierced, and they will mourn for him as one mourns for an only child, and grieve bitterly for him as one grieves for a firstborn son.'" Revelation 1:7,8 "Look, He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see Him, even those who pierced him; and all the peoples of the earth will mourn because of Him. So shall it be! Amen. 'I am the Alpha and the Omega,' says the Lord God, 'who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.'"

1 Timothy 6:14-16 "To keep this command without spot or blame until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, which God will bring about in his own time--God, the blessed and only Ruler, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone is immortal and who lives in unapproachable light, whom no one has seen or can see. To him be honor and might forever. Amen." Revelation 19:16 speaking of Jesus "On His robe and on His thigh He has this name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS."

Isaiah 43:10 "'You are my witnesses,' declares the LORD, 'and my servant whom I have chosen, so that you may know and believe me and understand that I AM HE. Before me no god was formed, nor will there be one after me."

Hebrews 13:8 "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever."

Fully God yet Fully Man

Becoming fully man on earth, Jesus had fully given up His Glory and rightful position with God for a time. Jesus was still fully God however know He was fully man and fully deity who had chosen to submit Himself to God the father just as a man would fully sympathizing with mans frailty. Jesus de-robbed or put of His Godhead or deity to become fully man so that He could take upon Himself the sins of fallen man. Jesus was still fully God, He simply choose to take on the nature of man to be like man in His dependence upon God and in being tempted in all things as people are. As such He had to pray and trust God for all He did while on earth. It was a willful demotion from His position in heaven. As a man on this earth Jesus fully sympathized with us and had to fully rely on His father and pray without ceasing as we are supposed. Jesus set the example by leading by example -- not just talking about it.

John 17:1-3,21,24 "After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed: "Father, the time has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you. For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him. Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent... That all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one."

Hebrews 4:15 "For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are--yet was without sin."

Jesus is God

John 1:1, "The word was God." John 1:18, " The only begotten God." John 20:28, "My Lord and My God." Titus 2:13, "Our great God and savior Jesus Christ." Hebrews 1:8, "Thy throne O God." 2 Peter 1:1, "Our God and savior Jesus Christ." 1 John 5:20, "The true God." Colossians 2:9, "In Christ all the fullness of deity dwells in bodily form." Isaiah 9:6, "The mighty God." Isaiah 7:14, Immanuel-"God with us," (Matthew 1:23). Hebrews 1:1-3, "The radiance of God's glory, the exact representation of God's nature." Colossians 1:15-17, "The image of the invisible God." Acts 20:28, "The church was purchased with the blood of God." 2 Corinthians 4:4, "The image of God." Romans 9:5, "Overall, God, blessed forever." 1 Corinthians 1:24, "Christ, the power of God and the wisdom of God." 2 Thessalonians 1:12, "Our God and Lord Jesus Christ." Philippians 2:6, "Who, being in very nature God did not find it robbery to be considered equal with God."

Come To Me

Jesus said "Come to me all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls, for my yoke is easy and my burden is light." (Matt 11:28-30). "He has borne our grief's and carried our sorrows... He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquity; the chastisement of our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed." (Isaiah 53:4-5). John 10:10 says that Jesus came that we "might have life and life more abundantly." John 11:25 says, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die he shall live, and whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?." Jesus said to the women at the well "If you knew the gift of God... you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water." Later Jesus said, "Whoever drinks of this water will never thirst again. The water that I give him shall become a fountain of living water springing up into eternal life." (John 4:7-14). Jesus also said to His disciples "If anyone thirsts let him come to Me and drink, as the scriptures have said, out of his heart shall flow rivers of living water." (John 7:37,38). "The Spirit and the bride say 'Come' and let him who hears 'Come' and let him who thirst come. Whomever desires, let Him who desires drink the living waters freely." (Revelation 22:17). "I am the bread of life" declares Jesus our Lord "he who believes in Me shall never thirst." John 6:35
