Is The Bible Really Inspired By God?Can we believe in the bible? What makes you think it is factual? What does it do for me? It has been reported for about 50 years that the Bible has been the largest seller of all books published in the history of the world. The Bible was written over a 1500 hundred year span, by over 40 generations. The bible is compiled of 66 different books, written by more than 40 authors from every walk of life including kings, peasants, philosophers, fisherman, poets, statesman, scholars, etc... The bible was written in different places such as the wilderness, a dungeon, a hillside, a palace, a prison, while traveling, on an island, in the military, etc... It was written on 3 continents. The bible is written in three languages; Hebrew, Aramaic, & Greek. The bible has been read by by more people and published in more languages than any other book in history and there are more copies of its entirety that have been produced than any other book in human history. According to The Cambridge History of the Bible, no other book has known anything approaching this constant circulation. Its subject matter includes hundreds of controversial topics yet the Biblical authors spoke with harmony and continuity from Genesis to Revelation. The bible has withstood vicious attacks from its enemies as no other book has. Many have tried to burn it, ban it, destroy it and outlaw it and the bible is still here. The bible is a book of the history of God reaching out to man and more it is a manual for life, holy living, and how to experience God today if it is applied you can go places and do things that you never imagined possible. These men wrote as they were moved by the Holy Spirit (2 Pet. 1:21). They wrote not in words of human wisdom but in words taught by the Holy Spirit (1 Cor. 2:13). Let History Speak For Itself Ancient historians have substantiate the reliability of the NT, and of Jesus initial physical coming such at; Cornelius Tacitus, Seutonius, Flavius Josephus, Younger Plenty, Julius Africanus A.D. 221 quotes Thallus 52 A.D. There are contemporaries of Jesus who were not His followers who have substantiated the claims that He existed and that many miracles happened and that He allegedly died and rose again. i.e. Cornelius Tacitus. Annuls XV. Born A.D. 52-54. Governor of Asia. Seutonius. Life of Claudius 25.4 Lives of the Caesars 26.2. Flavius Josephus. Antiquities XVIII 3.3. A.D. 70-90. Born A.D. 37. Julius Africanus A.D. 221 quotes Thallus 52 A.D. a Samaritan historian who recorded an unusual eclipse that took place at a time that corresponds to Christ's crucifixion. So we can see that there were ancient contemporaries of Jesus and the Apostles, non-Christian writers/historians who made reference to Jesus Christ in their writings (Darrel Heide, Apologetic Notes, p. 47. J. Miller, Christian Evidences, p. 21.) How Accurate is the Bible? The Holy Bible is at least 1900 years old, the Bible contains none of the geographical, historical, and scientific mistakes and inaccuracies that characterize the writings of men. Books of medicine, astronomy, geology, etc., even 50 to 100 years old are usually outdated because of mistakes.
How reliable is the Bible compared to other books written about the same time. The
bible is the most accurate with the most amount of copies in circulation at the
time of its writing. Compare the NT to other Greek writings; Caesar written
about 100-44 B.C., earliest known copy 900 A.D., time span 1000 years, number of
copies 10. Livy written about 59 B.C. earliest copy A.D.17, number of copies
Plato (Tetralogies) written about 427-347 B.C. earliest known copy 900 A.D.
spanned 1200 years only copies 7 in circulation. Tacitus (Annals) also minors
works written about 100 A.D. earliest known copy, 1100 A.D. span of time 1000
years, 20 copies in existence. Sophocles written about 496-406 B.C. earliest
known copy 1000 A.D. span of time 1400 years, 193 in existence. Aristole written
about 384-322 B.C. earliest known copy 1100 A.D. span of time 1400 years, 49
known copies in existence. Aristophanes written about 450-385 B.C. earliest
known copy 900 A.D. span of time 1200 years, 10 known copies in existence. Homer
(Iliad) written about 900 B.C. earliest known copy 400 B.C. span of time 1500
years, 643 copies in existence. New Testament written between 40-105 A.D.
earliest known copy 125 A.D. span of time 25 years, 24,000 copies in existence.
The first translation of the English Bible was initiated by John Wycliffe and
completed by John Purvey in A.D. 1388. The first American edition of the Bible
was perhaps published some time before A.D. 1752. The Bible has been translated
in part or in whole as of 1964 in over 1,200 different languages or dialects.
The Bible was divided into chapters by Stephen Langton about A.D. 1228. The Old
Testament was divided into verses by R. Nathan in A.D. 1448 and the New
Testament by Robert Stephanus in A.D. 1551. There are 66 books in the Bible, 39
in the O.T. and 27 in the new. The O.T. has 23,214 verses. The N.T. has 7,959
verses. The word "God" occurs 4,379 times. The word "Lord"
occurs 7,738 times. Scientific Accuracies of the Bible The bible is accurate scientifically it has proved many things thousands of years before science had the technology to prove it.
