Methods of Praise: FAQ WHY
WE WORSHIP LIKE WE DO? It is always
a joy to come into God’s presence. Our worship is informal and spontaneous.
Expressive worship is based on the pattern of the Word of God. The Bible teaches
us that the people are the church, and the building is where the church meets to
worship God and receive instruction from the Word. This information will
hopefully give you some information about our church and explain our form of
worship. Why
Are Musical Instruments a Part of the Worship Service? “Praise Him with the sounding of the trumpet; Praise Him with the harp and lyre. Praise Him with the tambourine and dancing. Praise Him with strings and flute. Praise Him upon the clash of cymbals; Praise Him upon the resounding cymbals.” Psalm 150:3-5 “And I heard a sound from heaven
like the roar of rushing waters and like a loud peal of thunder. The sound I
heard was like that of harpists playing their harps.” Revelation
14:2 Why
do We Stand When We Sing? “Then some Levites…stood up and praised the Lord, the God of Israel, with a very loud voice.” 2 Chronicles 20:19 Why
do We Clap Our Hands? “O clap your hands, all ye people.” Ps. 47:1 “All the trees of the field
shall clap their hands.” Isa. 55:12 Why
Do We Lift Our Hands? “I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands.” Psalm 63:4 “Lift up your hands in the sanctuary and praise the Lord.” Psalm 134:2 “I want men everywhere to lift
up holy hands in prayer, without anger or dispute.” 1 Timothy 2:8 Why Do We Have Audible Praise Unto God? “Praise the Lord, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise His holy name.” Psalm 103:1 “I will extol the Lord at all times; His praise will always be on my lips.” Psalm 34:1 “When they heard this, they raised their voices together to God…” Acts 4:24 “O sing unto the Lord a new song; for He has done marvelous things.” Psalm 98:1 “Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all the earth; make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise.” Psalm 98:4 “I heard a great voice of much people in heaven, saying, Alleluia, Salvation, and glory, and honor, and power, unto the Lord our God.” Rev. 19:1 “I will give thee thanks in the great congregation. I will praise thee among much people.” Ps. 35:18 “O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt His name together.” Ps. 34:3 “Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord.” Eph. 5:19 “When was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing.” Ps. 126:2 “Be glad in the Lord, and rejoice, ye righteous: and shout for joy, all ye that are upright in heart.” Ps. 32:11 “Let my mouth be filled
with thy praise and with thy honor all the day.” Ps. 71:8 Why
Do We Sing Choruses as Well as Hymns? “Speak
to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in
your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything,
in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Ephesians 5:18-19 “Let the word of Christ dwell in
you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you
sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.”
Colossians 3:16 Why
Does the Whole Church Pray at Once for Specific Needs? “When they heard this, they
raised their voices together in prayer to God. ‘Sovereign Lord,’ they
said, ‘you make the heaven and the earth and the sea, and everything in them.”
Acts 4:24 Why
Do We Anoint with Oil and Pray for the Sick? “Is any one of you sick? He
should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil
in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick
person well; the Lord will raise him up. I he has sinned, he will be forgiven.”
James 5:14-15 What is Prophecy? “…the Sovereign Lord has spoken, who can but prophecy?” Amos 3:8 “But everyone who prophesies speaks to men for their strengthening, encouragement and comfort.” 1 Corinthians 14:3 “Follow the way of love and eagerly desire spiritual gifts, especially the gift of prophecy.” 1 Corinthians 12:7&10 “For you can all prophecy in turn so that everyone may be instructed and encouraged.” 1 Corinthians 14:31 “Two or three prophets should
speak, and the others should weigh carefully what is said.” 1 Corinthians
14:29 Why Do We Have Speaking with Tongues and Interpretation of Those Tongues? “Therefore
my brothers, be eager to prophecy, and do not forbid speaking in
tongues.” 1 Corinthians 14:39 “Now
to each on the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. …to
another speaking in different kinds of tongues, to another the
interpretation of tongues.” 1 Corinthians 12:7 & 10 “I
would like every one of you to speak in tongues, but I would rather have you
prophecy. He who prophesies is greater than one who speaks in tongues, unless he
interprets,
so that the church may be edified.”
1 Corinthians 14:5 “If any one speaks in a tongue,
two - or at the most three - should speak, on at a time, and someone must interpret.”
1 Corinthians 14:27 Why
Do We Sing In Tongues and In English? “For
if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is
unfruitful. So what shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray
with my mind; I will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my mind.”
1 Corinthians 14:14-15 Why
Do We Have This Type of Worship? “Yet
a time is coming and has now come when the true worshiper will worship the
Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers
the Father seeks. God is spirit, and His worshipers must worship in spirit
and in truth.” John 4:23-24 “For it is we who are the circumcision, we who worship by the Spirit of God, who glory in Christ Jesus, and who put no confidence in the flesh.” Philippians 3:3 |
